INSTALLING ‘WHALES’ AT CCSF

In the Summer of 2025 Atthowe worked closely with San Francisco Arts Commission, ARG Conservation Services, and Sheedy Drayage Co. teams to install the refurbished 16 ton sculpture, Whales by Robert B. Howard, at City College of San Francisco's Student Success Center.

First created for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, Whales then went from storage, to the Golden Gate Park Aquarium, back to storage, and now is fully conserved and in its permanent home at CCSF's Ocean Campus.

It's always exciting to work with Sheedy Drayage’s 500-ton crane and team, especially when the 32,000 lb. piece had to be lifted to great heights, crossing over the top of the campus building to finally land safely in its new home.

Look for Whales next time you're on Ocean Avenue & Frida Kahlo Way!
